AS THE HSE DRIVES TO IMPROVE SAFETY STANDARDS ON SMALL CONSTRUCTION SITES THIS REQUIREMENT BRINGS MAJOR CHANGE TO THE INDUStrY WITH PREVIOUSLY UNAFFECTED CONTRACTORS NOW BEING REQUIRED TO UNDERTAKE THE LEGAL ROLE OF PRINCIPal CONTRACTOR ON ALL PROJECTS INVOLVING MORE THAN ONE CONTRACTOR INCLUDING DOMESTIC PROJECTS.
The role of Principal Contractor requires the appointment Contractor to plan and manage H&S during the Construction Phase of the project. To reduce the burden on Contractors we offer a common sense and proportionate approach to the management of Principal Contractors duties on projects of all sizes.
We offer the following support services to assist principal contractors:
- Liaison with the Client and Principal Designer on CDM / H&S matters.
- Review Pre Construction Information issued by the Principal Designer and advise on any H&S and cost implications.
- Carry out initial site visit and hazard review.
- Produce Construction Phase Plans and associated CDM management documentation including Risk Assessments, method statements & COSHH.
- Advise on required welfare provisions.
- Assist with implementation of the Construction Phase plan including:
- Production and delivery of site inductions.
- Review of Contractors Health and Safety Paperwork including RAMS.
- Undertaking Site Audits and inspections.
- Production and delivery of Toolbox Talks.
- Production of CDM Boundary drawings, logistics plans and Traffic Management plans
- Provide H&S information to contractors during construction phase.
- Production of Environmental Management Plans and Risk Assessments.
- Collate information to be included into the Health and Safety File.
- Provide practical H&S / CDM advice available as and when required.
